Day 5 - Acadia National Park

After a good night sleep for all we did the slow roll of getting up.  Kent made some oatmeal and with a few cups of coffee all ready to head out!  The VRBO is an extension of the owners home which is so typical for this area.
2 bedroom one bath with big kitchen doing the trick for the trip.  Right next to cemetery as well.  Sunny day today to start off.  Highs in the 50's.
This morning was about orientation of Mt Desert Island where Arcadia is located.  Driving tour with goal to get lunch and then some hikes.
We headed south through Bar Harbor and entered the park at Stanley Brook road entrance.  Beautiful drive up to the trailhead of 3.2 mile hike around Jordan Pond.
After the hike we headed down to Northeast Harbor for lunch.  Almost everything was shutdown except The Nor'easter Pound & Market.  Kent and Janie chose steak and potatoes while and Jeff and Sheila  had clam chowder ,grilled cheese and seasoned fries.
After lunch we drove around for sites to see.  Then headed back to Bar Harbor.

Dinner based on VRBO host recommendation away from the cruise ship stops.  Literally everything will close here over the next two weeks and all buoldings will be boarded up in case of storm and to help prevent vandalism.

Lobster Bisque and other nice food caps the day.  Headed back to base camp to relax and get ready for day two.

Day 9 & 10 Round Up

Thanks to St. John (John Gagliardi) for getting out early to get bagels and coffee.  The balance of the morning we all helped setup for the big thank you party for 200 plus.  Mid morning Jeff and Janie headed downtown to Dolce Italian Cafe to meet with Jennifer Clemow.  We had a short visit but it was so great to catch up with her and hear about CC a freshman in HS and Tyler entering middle school. From New Canaan we headed north with a stop in Waterbury for a Mexican lunch and yes they had great margaritas.  Then the trek to Tolland, MA (Tunix Club lake) to visit our Uncle Brian and Aunt Susan. Sunday Brian treated us to omelets.  A rainy day, so hanging inside by the fire discussing family reunion options and memories.  Below is the welcome Bear to the Clemow cabin. Trip Day 2 - Newport, RI and Boston

Departed from Heather and Johns' New Canaan home and drove by their last house a large Farm House.  Then headed to a recommended coffee shop for Jeff.  Luckily for Sheila, John and Alexandra were able to meet us with her left behind bag.   Coffee, hot coco and muffins to go and with the rain picking up we headed up the Merritt Parkway to Newport, RI. On the way we peeled off through Old Saybrook, CT and down to Fenwick where we found Katherine Hepburn's old house along the shore where Jeff used to spend time with his grandparents.  We continued our trek up the coast to New Port, RI with the rain gathering its strength.  The group decided to first have lunch and then tour the Newport sites.  John recommended a place on the Bowen Warf, 22 Bowen Wine Bar and Grille.  Great choice by John for sure.  Clam Chowder and Lobster Bisque to start and then grouper sandwich and lobster roll lunches. Travel to NE Day 1

 Like all trips you have to get to the destination before you start the adventure. Janie flew to LaGuardia on Monday, October 16th to meet Sheila to help her watch her 4 granddaughters in New Canaan while John and Heather were going to be away for a few days.  However, when she arrived, she had a text stating a friend she was with for quite sometime the day before just tested positive for covid.  Typically this wouldn't have been too big of a deal but with Alexandra just completing her chemo treatments for leukemia, she decided to catch a flight back home Monday night.  Heather was ok with her staying but she didn't want to risk getting any of the kids sick. Jeff picked up Janie late Monday night after a long day of flying LaGuardia and then back home.  She was fine all week and tested negative Friday morning so a go for our trip back to LaGuardia.  Jeff and Janie first took Breck to the kennel for boarding then headed on to the new KCI terminal.  The flight to LaGuardia went s
